Finally, a new update! | Bowl Party v0.2.0


Hello! After almost 6 months since I published Bowl Party, I decided to update the game to make it more accessible. What do I mean by that? Well, I transitioned away from the SteamVR Interaction System framework that I was previously using for the game. While it was wonderful and made everything so easy, it locked players into using the SteamVR runtime, which while probably not an issue for most, is something I didn't want. Instead, I'm now using the experimental Unity XR Interaction Toolkit, which requires you to put a lot more legwork in, but it leaves a lot more room for open-endedness and experimentation, which I enjoy. This does mean the hand models took a bit of a visual nosedive, but that's alright for the time being. I'm thinking I should probably add more content to this game, and especially improve the physics. The stock physics are still not great, but at the same time, I don't want to write a whole new physics system for the bowling ball myself. Anyway, hope you enjoy this new update!


Changes:

  • Migrated from SteamVR to OpenXR, this means a slight visual and control change from the previous update
  • Replaced the original level music with a more laid back remix of the same track

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed (I think) a bug where the bowling balls falling on the title screen would suddenly stop moving

To dos:

  • Improve physics and/or add customizable physics
  • 1+ new maps
  • Improve visuals, and add indicators for teleportation areas and grabbable physics objects
